Family club franchise Busylizzy, based in Midhurst West Sussex, was one of the big winners at the prestigious 2016 bfa HSBC FranchisoBusylizzy - Emerging_1200r Of The Year Awards in Nottingham, when it picked up the award for Emerging Franchisor.

Judges said Busylizzy was “the perfect marriage of style and substance” – a young, modern and dynamic business, which offered flexibility to its franchisees.

A delighted Julie Clabby, founder of Busylizzy, said: “We are hugely proud to have won this prestigious award and see it as a spring board to our expansion across the country. With this accolade under our belt, and the incredible boost it will bring to our profile, we feel confident to accelerate our new franchise projections.”

Busylizzy was founded in 2011 after Julie identified a gap in the market for exercise classes designed for postnatal mums, babies and toddlers, all wrapped up into one membership. It now includes seven franchise clubs nationwide.

Pip Wilkins, bfa chief executive, said: “There’s an impressive level of detail and openness at the heart of busylizzy. Julie and the team committed to ethical franchising principles from day one, including emphasis on maximising franchisee support. They’re now reaping the rewards with accelerated growth and an outstanding foundation for future success.”

Andrew Brattesani, UK head of franchising for HSBC, said: “This is a modern and a dynamic business built in the image of its founder. It’s been set up to maximise current technologies and make things as flexible as possible for its franchisees, and is delivering impressive results for them. Certainly one to watch in coming years.”

The 2016 awards had five categories:

  • bfa HSBC Franchisor of the Year
  • Emerging Franchisor of the Year
  • Award for Innovation
  • Franchisee Recruitment Award
  • Award for Customer Focus

The British Franchise Association (bfa) recognises the UK’s most exceptional operators in a range of categories, for their business growth and development, service excellence and ethical franchising practice.
