The firm was established in 2004 by John Pratt who had been managing partner of Pinsent Masons, a top 15 UK law firm but who believed that a more focused and cost effective approach to advising those involved in franchising was required than could be offered by a law firm that did not specialise in this area.

Although the majority of the firms work is advising franchisors, the firm also provides advice to prospective franchisees and franchisors who have encountered difficulties with their franchise. Hamilton Pratt represents franchisees where difficult questions of law arise where there has been “bad behaviour” from their franchisor.
