A unique workshop that explores gangs and criminal exploitation of young people has been launched by The Detective Project, a Bristol based company.
The Detective Project team are skilled professionals who bring their years of experience together to run authentic, enjoyable and challenging workshops based around a hands-on crime scene investigation.
The gang’s workshops offer an opportunity to deal with a difficult topic in a different and interesting way led by experienced practitioners in a relaxed setting.
The workshop was created and written by Louise Giles and Llorien Walsh of The Detective Project South Essex in conjunction with experts in the field.
Llorien and Louise have over 28 years’ experience between them of investigating serious crime. They worked together as Scotland Yard Detectives in London and realised they shared a passion for encouraging children and young people to develop an interest in forensics and crime investigation.
This workshop promotes discussion on topics relevant to the social and development programmes in schools by providing a vehicle for pupils to discuss themes such as drug dealing, county lines, internet safety, bullying, sexual exploitation and gang culture.
Louise from The Detective Project South Essex says; “These issues are raised by the pupils themselves in brainstorming sessions around what may have happened to the victim in the workshop scenario. It allows free discussion to take place rather than exploring these issues via structured lectures, which experience shows has limited impact”.
Jenny Williams, Managing Director at The Detective Project, says; “Louise and Llorien have done a fantastic job of channelling their years of experience and knowledge into this ground-breaking workshop that will educate today’s youth and adults alike”.
The participants will work together as a team to evaluate evidence, learn about forensic techniques as well as the criminal justice system and understand more about the way gangs recruit and help them to identify types of criminal exploitation.
The Detective Project’s head office is based in Bristol with Detective Project franchises based in South Essex, Wessex, Harrogate, Mid-Downs and Leicester.
