Pitman Training is an established vocational training provider with a proud heritage of providing high quality, innovative learning products. Established in 1837 by Sir Isaac Pitman, internationally renowned for the creation of Pitman Shorthand, the business is prominent historically for the significant success of its secretarial training schools. As a trailblazer in the world of office training and education in the past, the company has embraced recent technological advances within the workplace and continues to provide training courses and diplomas of distinction delivered using their own unique methods.
The company opened its flagship franchised Pitman Training Centre in 1992, with the network growing to circa 100 Pitman Training Centres globally to date. At the helm of Pitman Training is mum of two, Managing Director, Claire Lister. Following her graduation from York University with a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Chemistry with Industrial Economics, Claire decided to follow in her father’s footsteps with a career in accountancy. Joining Pitman Training in 1998 as Finance Director, ambitious Claire became MD in 2006.

Franchise Sales Manager for Pitman Training in the United Kingdom, Nicola Haythorne, recognises there has been a significant increase in the amount of women becoming involved in franchising at a senior operational level in recent times. “It is always great to meet new people at the British Franchise Association Regional Meetings and Annual Conference, and it has become increasingly apparent that more women are choosing to follow careers in the franchise industry. It is something I am proud to be part of and feel supported in doing”. Nicola herself has recently been appointed QFP status, an accolade which recognises those in the franchising world with an astute proficiency and understanding of the complexities of the franchise model.
