With theatres back open, the students of Razzamataz Theatre Schools are performing in shows throughout the UK. With more than 22 years’ experience in the theatre school industry, the Dragons’ Den back franchise has seen some exceptional perks for children (and their families) who are involved in shows.
Learning to be patient
It’s hard to teach children to take their turn sometimes but it is a life skill that will serve them well in the future. If they wait patiently backstage, they will discover that it’s respectful to remain quiet, so they don’t distract the actors who are on stage. Razzamataz staff understand that children need many gentle reminders about waiting patiently but when they have fun while being patient, they feel incredibly proud of themselves.
Face your fears
Stepping out of your comfort zone is not easy but the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Taking part in a show gives children the opportunity to face an audience, speak in front of them, show them their dance skills and maybe sing a song or two. When this is done within the supportive environment of a Razzamataz show, the children will feel the love and encouragement of an audience. By supporting children to face their fears, they will become more resilient and confident.
Embrace responsibility
Taking part in a show requires everyone involved to accept a level of responsibility. During the rehearsal period, children learn to be prepared with learning their lines and dance steps. They don’t want to be the only one who doesn’t know their part and let the side down, so they learn to become part of the team and help each other when needed.
Find your tribe
Children sometimes find it difficult to fit in with their peer group. Flamboyant and loud personalities are not always able to be themselves until they are in a theatre setting. Being part of a show gives children an outlet to be loud and energetic and meet others who share their outlook on life.
Education boost
Being part of a show also helps children perform better at school. The arts are vital for developing the brain and reading scripts and learning lines, are fundamental in improving reading and language.
Build your confidence
At Razzamataz, our students tell us how much performing in shows has meant to them growing up. It has improved their confidence, given them belief in themselves and enabled them to go for their dreams in many different areas of their life.

“Razzamataz made me feel at ease and that’s where my confidence came out. It was a safe space to feel silly and push myself out of my comfort zone,” Ella Lacey, former Razzamataz Sheffield student.
“Razzamataz taught me to push myself out of my comfort zone. Through performing in the annual shows, I became more confident in myself and what I could achieve,” Daniela Dawkins, former Razzamataz Carlisle student.
