Do you have a career goal you’re working towards? If you dream of running your own business, and you’re under 30, guess what… you can jump straight to the top of the ladder, with franchising.
Five, four, three, two, one
Leggo! (watch me)
Level up, level up, level up, level up, level up[1]
If you’ve spent any time on Instagram, this song will now become an earworm as you read this! #sorrynotsorry. Regardless of your age, do you have the career you want? Do you even have a goal for where you want to be in five, ten, even thirty years? At EWiF, we believe – if you haven’t already done so – it’s time to “graduate your level” and rise to the top of the your own ladder.
But, I can’t…
Why not? What do you think is stopping you from becoming the boss of your own business, if this is part of your career plan?
- Is it your age?
- Your lack of knowledge or the right education?
- You don’t know how to run a business?
- You haven’t had enough life or work experience?
- You don’t know where to start?
- You don’t believe in yourself enough?
- You’re afraid of failing?
Whilst these might sound valid, at the end of the day, they’re excuses – not reasons. If you’ve been allowing this mindset to keep you at a lower level in your career journey, it’s time to level up. Franchising provides the perfect opportunity for you to do so, because of the training and support you receive, irrespective of your education and work experience.
Level up your mindset!
According to a 2019 study which was reviewed in Forbes[2], there were twice as many male entrepreneurs in university, than females:
- 20% of the male students had already started their own business
- compared with just 8% of females
This isn’t because there are less opportunities for us – but, traditionally speaking, we are more risk averse, and tend to dwell on what we can’t do, rather than what we can. Which means, if you’re thinking about starting your own business, and are afraid to do so, your first challenge is to change how you think. So, try these, for starters:
- My time on this earth is precious – I deserve to spend it doing what I love, instead of what I’m enduring.
- There isn’t another me, which means I have something of value to offer the people around me – both today, and in the future.
- My success won’t look the same as anyone else’s, which means I have the right to determine my own level and how to reach it. Along the way there will be potholes, and bumps to work through, but I will reach my goal.
We allow the fear of failing to stop us before we even start something. Which is where franchising as a route to business ownership has become the best way for many young women to achieve their goal. As a franchise owner, you’ll have people by your side throughout your franchise journey, determined to help you succeed and giving you all the tools and confidence to do so.
Level up your circle
Back in the day, there was a clearly defined career progression, which many people still trying to work towards, today. But, you actually have better opportunities for skipping some of those lower rungs and reach the level you want. So, you can go straight to the top, if this is your goal.
But, where are the role models? Women, like you, who are running successful businesses? They’re probably not on Instagram, posting reels about how they level up! They’re busy enjoying the life they’re creating. One which gives them the flexibility to work to suit them, to travel, to enjoy life experiences, and gain the security as women who aren’t reliant on anyone else.
Within franchising, according to the 2018 NatWest bfa Franchise Survey:
- 37% of new franchisees were women
- 18% of all franchisees under 30 were women
which means there are suitable role models operating some of the 48,600 successful franchise businesses in the UK.
Franchising is empowering women under 30 to start and run their own businesses, and they’re totally bossing it. So, why shouldn’t you? By spending time with people living the life you aspire to, makes it easier for you to see what you can actually achieve.
Ready to level up?
At EWiF, we hold regular regional events, which are free to attend, and will enable you to connect with some of our exceptional women. We become like the people we spend time with, so maybe it’s time to surround yourself with these kind of people. We have franchisees in their late teens, and early twenties who are running successful business and inspiring others with their can-do mindset.
