Making dreams come true, a franchise theatre school network is once again offering an exceptional opportunity to win a year’s scholarship to receive award-winning performing arts tuition.

Returning for the thirteenth consecutive year, Razzamataz Theatre Schools is delighted to announce that the scholarships in association with The Stage newspaper will officially open on April 4th

There are almost 60 schools across the UK taking part with the opportunity open to all young people from the ages of six to 18. Both existing students and those without formal training can apply, for the chance to win a year’s worth of training at their local Razzamataz school, worth up to £855. This is in addition to the other opportunities including taking part in the annual variety showcase, local performances, and specialist workshops.

As well as being offered a free place, the scholarship is a huge boost of confidence and can lead to amazing experiences including the chance to attend The Stage winners’ party and photoshoot. It has also changed the lives of past winners, giving them the confidence to pursue their dreams.

Robson Broad, a student at Razzamataz Medway, was one of the first scholarship winners. He is a former cast member of West End hit Hamilton, is part of the current cast to open West End show Moulin Rouge and appeared in the prestigious Royal Variety Performance.

“Winning The Stage scholarship gave me a huge boost of confidence and attending The Stage winners party gave me a little glimpse into what it would be like to be a professional performer,” says Robson. The opportunities that he got at Razzamataz has changed his life and he regularly returns to teach and inspire the next generation. “This has been a dream of mine for so long and I’m really grateful to all the people who have helped me get here,” says Robson. “It’s a tough industry but during my time at Razzamataz, I got to meet lots of performers through the special guest workshops and now it is incredible that I’m in that privileged position myself.”

With more than 22 years in the sector, Razzamataz has given many young people the confidence to achieve their dreams and ambitions, whether that is as a performer, health specialist, teacher or creative.

“After the various lockdowns and restrictions, we know there has been a huge dip in mental health in children and young people,” says Denise Hutton-Gosney, MD and Founder of Razzamataz. “Our schools, Principals and teachers are focused on helping children regain confidence and building their resilience, which will enable them to achieve whatever they want to in life.”

The audition process is simple, and it allows for children without formal training the opportunity to apply. Those entering just need to film themselves performing in any (or all three) of the disciplines that Razzamataz teaches, which is singing, dance and drama. The demo does not have to be professionally filmed and the judges are looking for raw talent and potential that they know can be refined through professional training at one of the schools. Applicants will also complete a short form detailing why they would like to take this opportunity.

Being a theatre school Principal is much more than just running a business. Razzamataz franchisees are in a privileged position to change young people’s lives and really make a difference to their local communities. It is a business where passion and purpose collide to create a legacy, both to the young people who attend the schools and the staff members within it. Many former teachers go on to open their own Razzamataz schools, creating financial security for those in the arts.
