After an uncertain few years of overseas travel, airport chaos and cancelled flights, families are looking to make this summer special. Help is at hand for busy parents with the announcement that the network of Dragons’ Den backed performing arts schools are bringing back their summer schools across the UK.

These fun and exciting sessions will get children moving, improve their mental and physical health and develop skills for life. But of course, the most important part of a Razzamataz summer school is the chance for children to have loads of fun and make friends. Many of the schools will select a theme based on this year’s most popular film or musical, so children with leave with a huge smile on their face every day as they get the chance to bring their favourite characters to life.

“It is no surprise that over the pandemic, children have used computers and devices far more than they ever did and as a result, they have become used to hiding behind their screens,” says Denise Hutton-Gosney, MD and Founder of Razzamataz. “Our team of highly experienced teachers are trained to help children build confidence through participation in our fun performing arts classes. We help children feel proud of their achievements, improve their team working skills and help them build self-belief through performing in front of an audience. The most important part is always ensuring that the children have a great time, and we help them to have a memorable summer.”

Each school has selected a different theme for their summer school, but all will include the key elements of singing, dancing, and acting and cover a range of genres. This will allow the students to experience a range of styles from street dance, pop singing and acting for camera through to traditional musical theatre that you will see in the West End or Broadway. Many of the schools offer a five-day experience although some have shorter or single day sessions.

“From shy children who can barely leave their parents through to confident performers delivering lines learnt over just a few days, the transformation from the start of summer school to the last day is amazing,” adds Denise. “When children are having fun and are engaged, it is incredible what can be accomplished.”

The students work with the teachers to devise scripts, work on the characters, learn songs and dances and prepare for the final day performance in front of family and friends. Some schools will also delve behind the scenes with stage makeup and directing, giving the young people further inspiration about careers in this much sought-after industry.
