A UK-wide theatre school franchise is challenging their students to pull off a wacky new hairstyle to raise money for various charities. Not only has lots of money been raised but children have flexed their creative juices by creating some memorable new looks.

Razzamataz Theatre Schools is a Dragons’ Den backed franchise with almost 60 schools across the UK. The children not only take part in regular singing, dancing and acting classes, but they are encouraged to do their bit for their local community in whatever ways possible.

The Wacky Hair Day is a particularly fun one for the students who threw themselves into the day with the use of crazy colours, gel and plenty of hairspray. Even the Principals and teachers got involved, having fun with wigs and some highly intricate designs that required a multitude of hairpins.

“As a network, we get involved in many different ways to raise money for charity,” says Denise Hutton-Gosney, MD and Founder of Razzamataz. “Our Principals have jumped out of planes, run marathons, competed in the Tough Mudder and got involved in many different events from bake sales through to Strictly Come Dancing extravaganzas.

Many of the schools choose a local charity to support as well as Razzamataz’s own registered charity called the Future Fund. This has been established for several years to offer some financial support to students going on to performing arts college.

The impact that the Future Fund has on students is incredible. Not only does it help them financially, but they get to perform in front of a panel of industry experts who offer them advice which they can take with them for their whole career.

We’ve had so much support from the industry with incredible panels of judges including cast members of West End’s Hamilton, Six, Matilda and one of the lead choreographers from BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing,” adds Denise.

It is these industry contacts, support and training that appeals to people looking to open their own Razzamataz school and become part of the multi-award-winning network.

“We have more than 22 years’ experience so can share our industry knowledge and contacts with all franchisees,” says Denise. “We have a strong and well-recognised brand which also gives us access to exciting opportunities for students. This includes performing on the West End stage, at Disneyland Paris and the 02 as well as regular masterclasses with a wide range of performers from street dancers Diversity to West End and Broadway stars. These opportunities give our local schools kudos and makes them unique in their communities.”
